Compliance gets complicated. Charles makes it make sense.

I make compliance make sense through stories, humor, and plain-English frameworks* for banks, credit unions, and the associations that serve them who struggle to navigate CRA, fair lending, marketing compliance, AI, and the large gray area commonly known as “it depends.”

*No regulation will be read aloud unless there is an emergency.

How I work

Boring isn't remembered.

Compliance matters too much to spend an hour on bullet points.

I've sat on most sides of this table. The examiner asking for the file. The compliance officer who owned the file. The operator trying to fix the process behind the file. The instructor explaining to a room full of marketers why everyone keeps talking about “the file.”

That's a lot of chairs. What they taught me is that the hard compliance problems are almost never hard because nobody can find the rule. They're hard because people have to apply it. So I don't teach the rule. I teach the decision.

  • I've been on both sides.

I've been the examiner asking the questions and the bank executive figuring out how to answer them. So the conversation stays anchored to what regulators actually look for and what your team can realistically do.

  • I speak marketing.

Compliance and growth don't have to be natural enemies. I spend a lot of my time helping marketers understand the risk and helping compliance understand the business goal. Usually I make them draw how they feel, which is where it gets fun.

  • And I am aggressively anti-nap.

I like to tell stories. Not bedtime stories and definitely not a bunch of dramatic retellings of how scary Civil Money Penalties were assessed. The ones I tell keep you on the edge of your seat, saying “ha ha”, and going “aha!”

Booking

Serious topic. Easy booking.

I work with associations, conferences, banks, credit unions, and professional groups. Keynote, breakout, workshop, panel, virtual.

You bring the audience and the problem. I bring the stories, the frameworks, and far fewer paragraphs of regulation than you're bracing for (and for which you are bracing).
